First Edition, First Issue, First State.  True First Issue and First State with all First State Points both major and minor, bound in its original publisher's pictorial green cloth binding.  Superficial rubbing with several small fabric holes and fabric looseness.  Light rubbing to spine with small chip to top of spine.  Frontispiece with tissue guard and beige end papers.  Despite its wear, it is still a solid, complete First Edition.  Three hundred sixty-six printed pages with 174 illustrations.  Illustrations by E.W. Kemble.  Extremely rare.   $15,000.00.

 

 

First Edition, First Issue, First State Points

1. Title Page is a cancel.
2. Title Page has 1884 Copyright on verso.
3. The Heading for Chapter 6 on the first Contents page reads "decided" (later corrected to "Decides."
4. "Him and another man" listed incorrectly at page 88 (on the Illustrations list on page 13).
5. On page 57, eleven (11) lines from the bottom it reads: "with the was" which was later changed to with the saw.
6. Below the Frontispiece bust of Twain, the Tablecloth is CLEARLY visible underneath.
7. Also below the Frontispiece bust of Twain, the "Heliotype Printing Co." imprint is present.
8. Signature mark "11" is missing on page 161.
9. Page 283 is a cancel sheet.
  10. Final leaf is a blank.
11. On page 143 the "l" (L) is missing in "Col" that is part of the Illustration at the top line of text.
12. Also on page 143, line 7 with a Broken "b."
13. On page 155, the second "5" is in a different font and in an off balance position.
